It was expected to be a battle between two lions fighting for territory, but turned out to be a tactical battle of wits between two wily foxes. There was every piece of drama that was expected to go in a Korea-China FIBA Asia Championship clash, but somehow all of those plots seem to move in merely rehearsal mode rather than real mode as Korea opened their account in Group C with Thursday’s 63-59 win.

Of course, the exchanges between the two teams, who between them have won the title 17 times, were to a large extent equal and sailing remained even keeled like it was in most of their 16 previous meetings in this competition. But unlike in 13 of those, which China had won, tonight the roll of dice went the other way with Korea pulling the punches in the dying moments.
