Roger Federer eases past Grega Zemlja in delayed first match at US Open

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Roger Federer easily won his delayed first match at the U.S. Open on Tuesday, with the Swiss great defeating Grega Zemlja 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 in a matchup postponed from Monday night because of rain.

The 17-time major champion needed just 93 minutes to beat the 62nd-ranked Slovenian, firing down 12 aces and 25 winners in a dominant display to erase memories of his last Grand Slam outing — a shock defeat to 116th-ranked Sergiy Stakhovsky in the 2nd round at Wimbledon.
